Wild Weather meant wild swell, wild for Christchurch that is!
Wild, big (well for Christchurch) and fat, but that’s Sumner for you. Sunday looked a whole lot cleaner and 2-3ft but I was booked into a mountain biking thing at vic park and didn’t get the chance to get pics or wet…
To set the scene a shot across from Scarborough to the Alps.

The Scarborough rip was acting like an expressway out back, people paddling from the boat ramp past the breakwater and straight into it, 7-8 knots or so straight out to Whitewash Head.
Seemed waves were hard to catch, only a handful of surfers doing OK (one short boarder went well) and a couple of the Sumner old boys on longboards. This guy on a nice McT..
The Clubies were out in force patrolling the heavy swell. No surprise as earlier in the day a 40 year old bloke washed up on the beach dead.
No more info has come to light I’m assuming he was a surfer.
I heard the siren several times in the day calling the guys out for a rescue.
Best waves of the day (I saw) go to this guy, right off Whitewash Head ( most of these shots taken with 350d + 70-200+2.0tc).
