Bottle Lake biker

An after ride shoot in Bottle Lake forrest. After a ride round Bottle Lake Forrest (cruisy Sunday ride rather than the all out Port Hills) I thought the slightly damp conditions brought out the colour of the Forrest nicely so decided to walk back in and grab some pics.

I set up the camera with about what I though were the right settings for the pic I wanted to take, fired a few test shots, adjusted, and waited.

And waited. This was a damp and cold (6 degree..) late Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t a busy day at all in Bottle Lake. Eventually a few bikers came past and I managed to grab a shot of one. Unfortunately they were going a touch quicker than I’d estimated so the shot turned out almost as I’d have hoped. Next time I’ll take a mate, bike and possibly a speed-light or two,  which would help immensely.

The shot is actually a blend of two exposures with the right hand being one without the flash , due to the on board flash doing horrid things to the tree.

350d, 10-20 @10mm, f7.1, ISO200, 1/8th, on board flash at -1ev 2nd curtain, but in Av mode so fill mode.

Thanks to the mystery mountain biker..
